Assessing mosquito activity and wingbeat frequency in wildtype and genetically modified Anopheles coluzzii strainsAbstract:

Anopheles coluzzii mosquitoes are a major malaria vector in Sub-Sahelian Africa, where more than 90% of all global malaria cases occur every year. Despite the widespread application of current methods for malaria reduction, more than 600,000 people died of malaria in 2024, highlighting the need for new approaches.

UC Davis student Rogelio Castillo did not expect undergraduate research to open a path for him to create change in his community of Lindsay, California. But his family’s past experiences with rushed and impersonal health care turned him to science to discover ways to improve health and the quality of patient-provider relationships.
